Hello. I am Dr. Jillian Graves, a licensed clinical social worker (LMSW), in the state of Michigan. I have experience working with adults, adolescents and families in both group and individual sessions. I have the most experiencing working with anger management, trauma, anxiety, parenting issues, mood disorders and workplace issues. I earned my MSW at Smith College and then went on to earn a Ph.D. in social work at Bryn Mawr, where my dissertation work focused on emerging adult (18-29-year-old) siblings of people with schizophrenia.
As you might guess, working with siblings of people with mental illness and adolescent and young adult development are specialties of mine as well. I believe that the most important work in therapy is the relationship. Establishing trust and solid communication is important and with that in mind, therapy is a collaborative process where I am here to help you set goals, provide support and offer insight. I have an eclectic approach to therapy, using approaches such as psychodynamic theory (including attachment theory), Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy, solution-focused treatment and narrative approaches. Making meaning, improving communication and understanding the ways that our personal histories shape us are important areas to focus on in therapy as well. Beginning therapy is difficult but I will be here to work with you every step of the way and if you have additional questions for me, please do not hesitate to ask. Dr Graves has been hugely helpful to me. Whether it is with coping with a particular ongoing issue, taking a step back to try to understand my responses to events and sometimes just talking like an old friend. She has very empathetic while offering things to try and some possible insights into situations which is a huge help

My experience with Dr Graves can be summed up in the feeling that someone threw me a lifeline! I don’t think I could have picked anyone more suited to my needs if I had interviewed for the position myself. Dr Gaves has approached our therapy sessions in a way that I’ve always been looking for in therapy, but could never quite vocalize. She approaches the situation with empathy, but also offers real, practical, well articulated advice; always putting an active effort into making sure she and I both understand the situation and are on the same page. Dr. Graves is a guiding light in a dark time in my life. I have tried counseling various time over the last few years and this is the first time I have managed to ‘connect’ with someone. She doesn’t rush you, she patient and her advise is sympathetic and constructive. I was in such a desperate state when I started with Dr Graves, I was suffering anxiety attacks in the middle of the night, I had physical signs of anxiety, I was so overwhelmed and just could get things straight in my mind. I was suffering with work stress and grief. I am currently I’m in a position where my thoughts are becoming clearer and I am able to talk about my issues. I’m still a way off but I’m beginning to see the light.

Dr. Graves has helped me immensely in crafting the narratives which are at the base of many of my anxieties, and how these are grounded in my particular trauma history. She is truly a therapist I feel comfortable delving into extremely difficult subjects and greatly value her feedback and inputs.
