More about Sarah

  • 8 years' experience
  • Female
  • LCSW

Hi! My name is Sarah, and I am a clinical social worker licensed in Wisconsin. I have over four years of clinical counseling experience working in a community clinic and private Christian counseling office, in addition to two years of graduate internships at UW Hospital and VA Hospital in Madison. I have worked with adults experiencing many distressing symptoms including depression, anxiety, self-esteem, grief, relationship issues, parenting concerns, life transition challenges, ADHD, LGBTQ specific concerns, and alcohol and drug use.

I am a respectful, strengths-based, client centered therapist. I strongly believe that my clients are the experts in their own lives. It is my goal to be a guide during a time when they may be overwhelmed with stressors or challenging symptoms. Together we will combine your personal strengths with tools from various therapies (including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Interpersonal Therapy) to create a treatment plan that is specific to your therapy goals. Before successful completion of therapy, you will have a positive action plan in place for responding to future stressors.

Because a healthy work and family life balance is important for everyone, I "practice what I preach". I respond to messages left for me on this platform every Monday thru Friday business day until 2 p.m. Many of my clients have found it helpful to send a message in the evening or on Sunday, and I always respond to those messages first thing in the workday morning. I am also available to do live video or phone sessions between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m each business day.

Finally, because online counseling is still a somewhat newer technology for many people, I want to always be clear and transparent about limitations to the platform. I am unable to write letters for clients to the courts, lawyers, or medical professionals. I can, however, talk with you about ways to advocate for yourself through these systems from the perspective of a therapist.

YOU have taken a positive, first step in creating positive change in your life. Together we can take the next steps toward helping your reach your goal.

I look forward to working with you!

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

Sarah has been a great guide in working through my issues. She uses research and research-based techniques, always respects where I’m at, and helps me build the tools I need to support my own mental health and well-being. I recommend her very highly.

I so appreciate having Sarah to reach out to and talk through my issues with. She knows my personality and struggles very well after almost a year of counseling together. We have come a long way to where I no longer require weekly sessions. When I’m meaning to talk to her but it slips my mind, she reaches out and checks in. This usually prompts me to make an appointment or to take the time to message about anything that may be going on or bothering me at the moment. Just all around very grateful for her!

I find myself extremely fortunate to have been assigned Sarah as my counselor, we get get along very well and have a very similar sense of humor which helps when discussing some tough topics. I always find she is very knowledgeable about what I am talking about or issues I am going through and links other resources to help her illustrate or aid her counseling which I find to be a nice combination.

Sarah is someone I could be friends with. This makes it easier to talk to her and laugh while I'm crying, because sometimes I need that. I end up all over the place, and she just follows right along.

Sarah is great! I look forward to our weekly sessions and feel comfortable talking with her about everything that’s going on in my life. She gives me good advice and really listens to what I have to say. I always leave our sessions feeling encouraged, heard, and valued.

Sarah is just amazing at her job. It feels like speaking to my wise friend rather than awkward therapy.

Reviewed September 2020

I work through a lot of issues myself by writing them out, but I appreciate Sarah being a sounding board and another voice of reason. I appreciate the resources that she has recommended. It's nice knowing there is someone there.

Reviewed July 2020

I love my sessions with Sarah. I feel like I’m quite normal and reasonable after our conversations and have a strong take away that I can apply and practice. Sarah helps me catch myself and bring perspectives that I don’t see on my own - especially when I am in a funk. I would also like to add that I am an Asian American woman in her 20s - and I know how hard it is to find a therapist who can understand a different culture upbringing.

Reviewed July 2020

Sarah is wonderful! She listens intently and is very supportive. She makes you feel comfortable and is very approachable. I feel like I'm talking and joking with a friend ;all while conquering big issues and working on self improvement. I didnt realize that this could be such a positive experience until I started working with her. Thanks Sarah!

Reviewed April 2020

Sarah has been a Godsend. We worked briefly and then took a break (my choosing) and she was supportive from day one about my goals. She always provided a very scientific and straight forward method on how to achieve them. Now that I have resumed my treatment as the result of a recent traumatic experience, it was like not a day was ever missed. Sarah made it very easy to pick up where we left off and focus directly on the current reason that brought me back to Better Help.

Reviewed April 2020

I feel completely understood and supported by Sarah and I never feel stifled or dismissed. She's wonderful and this service has honestly changed my entire life.

Highly recommended as a proficient guide in mental health strategies. Thank you to Sarah and BetterHelp for assisting me during this difficult time!

She's very intuitive, she completely understands me- quickly, she makes me feel very validated & safe, she frames things in a way that doesn't make me feel defensive which is very new to me from past experiences in life, and I'm very much looking forward to continued growth with her.

I wasn’t 100% sold with the idea of on-demand app based counseling. But I tried my 7 days and found Sarah and honestly, couldn’t be happier. She understands the delicate situations I’m dealing with and always forms an objective opinion and provides a number of methods to work through my anxiety. In the short time we’ve worked together I am already seeing results and excited for the future.

Reviewed August 2019

I have come a long way since joining BetterHelp thanks to Sarah. She thoroughly listens to me (even when I’m talking in circles for ten minutes) and picks up on thoughts that I don’t even realize I have. She pushes and encourages me to think critically about myself and how I can improve, which is exactly what I am on here to do.

Reviewed July 2019

The most amazing, funny, compassionate and best counselor I have ever had. She gives me great advice and ways to become the most full woman I can be. Just really love and appreciate her.

Reviewed June 2019

Sarah is absolutely incredible. She is engaged during the time we spend together, and is so knowledgeable with sources and different perspectives. I’ve worked with a handful of counselors, and none have matched to the level of comfort I immediately felt with Sarah. In addition, she’s encouraged me and helped me grow in my thoughts and actions - while also being honest and leveling with me. I’m so grateful for her!
