Christopher Mckillop was my second Better Help therapist, after having less than a connection with the previous. I found him to be highly intelligent and understanding of my thoughts and feelings through calm reasoning and an expert logical perspective. My favorite aspect about Chris would be his dependable tone of voice. He is someone who seeks rationality without preconceived judgment. Very refreshing. Thanks Chris!

Hi, my name is Chris McKillop and I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in North Carolina. I have been involved in the area of mental health and developmental disabilities since 1993. I received my Masters in Counseling in 2004 from the University of North Carolina in Charlotte. I have worked in community-based settings, group homes and transitional housing settings, as well as working as a school counselor for 2 years and a Juvenile Court Counselor for 6 years.
I strive to promote an atmosphere of trust and acceptance where clients feel safe, supported and validated. That trust and security will facilitate challenging thoughts, assumptions and beliefs that can be self-defeating and counterproductive to growth and having a life worth living. I believe the therapeutic relationship is the most important aspect of therapy, as it is the foundation upon which all other specific skills and techniques are based. Without that open and trusting relationship, the specific skills and techniques will be far less effective. I primarily use a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy focus, with elements of Behavioral Activation, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI). I strive to be adaptive and flexible in approach, working with the client’s strengths to best address the client’s concerns.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.
Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

Chris has been an absolute pleasure to work with. He has been kind, understanding and is always very thoughtful in his answers and comments. He made me feel comfortable from day one. I would highly recommend Chris to anyone looking for a therapist.
Great job! Thanks
Mr. McKillop is absolutely wonderful at what he does here. He takes the time to listen and gives meaningful advice for a variety of different situations. There is no rush to move on to a different topic and he does his best to understand and give a voice of reason when it’s needed.
Chris has helped me tremendously through the past year I’m getting myself focused on my needs and how to handle a lot of my anxiety. He’s very understanding and compassionate in handling everything as well.
I have enjoyed working with Chris. He is very understanding of my situation and offers great perspective and insight.
Chris is a great sounding board. He listens, gives another perspective and provides tools to navigate challenges.
Chris is very easy to talk to and enjoyed our sessions! He is practical and calm and really listened to my situation. Very helpful!
Chris has been an amazing person. He’s straight to the point and his help has made things easier and make sense when put into different perspectives.
Aw some
Chris is an extremely great listener, and allows/guides me to my own conclusions. Chris is able to break down my thoughts in a way that makes them more manageable, and teaches me how to do this on my own as well. Chris has been instrumental in helping me heal from a tremendous amount of trauma. I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking help.
Chris is attentive to the chat messages, listens very well during video meetings, and works hard to find the root cause of the situation you're dealing with. Even after one video session he provides suggestions on how to adjust my behaviors or reframe the situation from a different positive perspective.
Chris is very understanding and actually listens to me. He has helped me process through a lot of trauma and helped me to see things from a different perspective.
I’ve had traumatic experiences with therapists in the past. Before, I had therapists who make my trauma about themselves and their feelings. I was so afraid of therapy after that, I would have panic attacks just trying to book a session. I felt that there was no help for me anymore. The way Chris is able to help me simply through messaging has improved the quality of my life. Even though I don’t see him through video (bc I can’t handle that right now) I am still able to feel validated and heard.
He’s been great and very receptive, very helpful, very understanding. Sometimes it’s hard for me explain exactly what I’m feeling and dealing with, and he does an amazing job putting things into perspective and asking the right questions and actually understands my feelings.
Chris has been a blessing and quite a straight shooter in explaining/suggesting just what I need to be doing to cope with my life situations. It's very refreshing.
Mr McKillop is patient and kind. He reassures me when I am feeling out of whack.
He is excellent at making you and your needs feel important
Chris helped me talk through some of the most challenging times and I’m very grateful for his thoughtful responses and challenging questions. It’s difficult to put into words how impactful his sessions have been — they have been so very helpful—the least I can say is that I highly recommend him to anyone who is looking for a professional and thoughtful therapist.
Chris is very understanding and helpful and responds in a timely manner. Working with him has been one of the best things I’ve done to help improve my life.
He’s been amazing!
Chris is very sensitive to the fact that I have had traumatizing and experiences with previous counselors. He is also the only fully qualified counselor I have had that practices what he suggests his patients to do.
Chris is very understanding and supportive. He doesn't sugarcoat, which is what I need and does well in explaining things that I may not understand or see right away.
He is a great therapist and listens to you. I had moments where I had not gotten back to him for weeks on end, and he still checked in with me to make sure I was doing okay. That was a nice feeling - being cared for and having someone genuinely ask if you are doing alright. Highly recommend!
Great person to talk to. Always there to help
Chris is always so respectful and responsive.
I have been chatting with Chris for a few months now and I can't say enough about him. He is right there if I need something and checks in with me frequently. No matter what I have going on in my life he does not judge and he gets where I'm coming from. He always has great bits of advice and it's also very supportive when I've figured something out on my own. And when I figured things out on my own he always has insight as to why or how I came to that. I would recommend Chris highly!
Chris is a great counselor and a fantastic listener. He validates the feelings that I express and then offers his thoughts. He never comes off as judgemental or dismissive of anything I have shared. I appreciate his logical responses that help me approach things in a more constructive manner.
Chris has been so incredible helpful! The tools he has helped me learned have given me new control on my surroundings and emotions. I am so grateful for his help and guidance.
Chris has been so helpful in helping me find sobriety, and also understanding how to manage expectations of myself and circumstances in my life. I have made so much personal progress over the last few months and Chris has played a huge part in that.
I was having a few issues and needed someone to help me navigate what I was going through. Chris was great. I didn't feel like I was being "talked at". I felt he understood my issues and feelings. Our sessions were very helpful and the fact that he checks in with me to see how I'm doing, I think is great. To me, he is very intuitive and always has something to say that really makes me think. Very grateful.
Chris is very informative and has a lot of information to give out. He listens very well and responses in a timely manner.
I was nervous about my first session, not knowing where to start or how to go into my issues, but he made it easy. It’s almost like talking to a friend, but one who is qualified to give you the right kind of advice or to guide you to helping yourself when you are having a tough time.
Chris is a great counselor who reaches out to those he counsels on a regular basis even if they are not as responsive as he is. Even though you may feel like there is not much to talk about or say, Chris really helps you open up more to identifying your emotions. I would very much recommend Chris as a mentor.
Chris is the model for being nonjudgmental, which in my experience, is an uncommon trait for counselors. Working with Chris after having harmful counseling experiences is a breath of fresh air.
Very thorough and a great communicator.
Chris has been incredibly helpful. He has introduced me to lots of helpful tools and thought stopping methods to help combat what I have been working through. I feel so much better thanks to his help and expertise. I wish I had tried Better Help sooner, it has been exactly what I needed.
He's been very helpful through this trying time in my life.
He message me to make sure I am doing okay! It makes me feel like someone cares and ready to listen!
Great job!
Like many people, I was unsure about online counseling. I wasn’t sure about the process and level of counselors. Luckily, I was paired with Chris McKillop. He spends time reading my messages and is able to identify the root issues I’m struggling with. For the first time, I feel understood. I’m glad I signed up.
Chris has varied knowledge in many subjects and has been able to help me not only with my gender journey but also in day to day life. I have really enjoyed how many resources and tools Chris has given me.
We just started working together not too long ago, but Chris has been wonderful so far. Very attentive and understanding!
Chris has been wonderful to work with. He listens and provides constructive feedback. It has been very helpful for me. I've tried speaking with many other counselors over the years and he is one of the best I've worked with.
Chris is calm, wise, and a fantastic listener. He makes me feel heard and understood. He also has great advice when I ask for it. He’s clearly very experienced with a wide range of people, and he’s very understanding.
Chris is always quick to respond and help me reach conclusions for problems I may be having without pushing me a certain way. He gives me tools and insight to get to my own natural conclusion and I really appreciate that.
This has been a tremendous experience. I’m so glad I chose to the do this. I would definitely recommend this to everyone.
It hasn't been long, but Chris has already helped me tremendously. I highly recommend him to anyone. I always look forward to our conversations. I can only imagine how much he's going to be able to help me in the continuing with him.
Working with Chris is awesome! I like how he said things I hadn't thought about that helped me cope with my struggles.
Chris is a knowledgeable and patient counselor that makes you feel safe to discuss anything you're dealing with. He's responsive and has a flexible schedule.
Chris was very helpful.
He’s so trusting and very knowledgeable. I was hesitant of a male counselor at first but I am very pleased with his abilities. Thank you!
I have completed over three weeks of therapy with Chris and it has been great. When I took the therapist questionnaire for my pairing, I hesitated at "Would you like a male or female therapist?" As a female, I was thinking "well a female may understand me more, but a male perspective would be nice on my marriage questions." So I left it to the universe to pick the gender my therapist. I was sort of hesitant going into my first meeting with Chris, but as I started talking, he not only understood my perspective, but also was able to help me think through problems from a different lens. He sends me resources to help in-between sessions. The worksheets have helped me identify areas of improvement/understanding. I also like how he uses his personal experiences as examples. It makes me feel more human and that I am not alone in my issues. I highly recommend Chris!
Chris' responses, both through messaging and our video sessions, make me feel like he's really hearing what I'm saying, and that means a lot. I'm not good at opening up to people most of the time, but his apparent understanding of and/or empathy for what I'm going through makes it easier to share.
Chris goes at my pace and helps me apply logic to intense emotion. We have had two sessions together and I will continue on because he has given me renewed faith in the therapeutic process.
I found Chris' advice very helpful. It gave me a different perspective on what was going on in my own mind. It's ever so helpful to bounce things off of someone who is not your own family! Thank you Chris.
Very informed, observant and understanding!
Chris has been helping me a lot over the past couple of weeks, he really understands what I’m saying and places my scattered thoughts into coherent reasonings as to why I’m feeling what I am. I’m very thankful I got him as my therapist when I signed up!
Chris is responsive and supportive, able to acknowledge my current situation and help me develop clarity. A excellent counselor, highly recommend!
Chris is supportive and kind but also challenges your assertions in a productive way. I have grown through our conversations and highly recommend him.
Chris has been very helpful so far. I like the way he gives reasons and words to my anxious thinking and helps me process things.
Although I didn't know what to expect from counseling, I am happy I was matched with Chris. I'm very pleased with how he approaches my problems & concerns without being overwhelming or trying to tackle everything at once. He's thoughtful, and an active listener with helpful insight. He has challenged me to recognize areas of improvement and is keeping me accountable by setting goals for the future. Chris is very approachable (and accessible) and seems like he truly cares.
Chris is a wonderful and insightful professional. He’s been indispensable to me as I navigate some challenging situations with my aging parents.
I really appreciate Chris's insight on the things that we discuss. I prefer the text functionality because I've found it easier to discuss things that I'd be uncomfortable saying face to face. The worksheets are very helpful for me to organize my thoughts and explain topics that I'm unfamiliar with. Chris is very responsive and his explanations are clear and understandable.
Chris does a great job of taking who I am and applying the concepts to that perspective. The conversations feel natural. Sometimes, he will go a little long-winded, but I do that too, so not a big deal.
