More about Karen

  • 22 years' experience
  • Female
  • LCSW

I have more than 20 years of experience working in educational and mental health settings, including working with children, adolescents, adults/adolescents with disabilities, developmental delay (Autism Spectrum) and hospice patients (including families navigating grief and loss). I am eclectic in my approach, customizing treatment to meet individual needs and utilizing a strength based approach. My style is direct and empowering. I like to have a focus in therapy and bring it to an end when we've achieved your goals.

You can become confident in your ability to manage stress, develop effective coping skills, improve your relationships while choosing to embrace life.

Modalities utilized are: Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT); brief solution-focused therapy, Mindfulness – based (MBCT), Person-Centered, Play therapy/Artistic Expression, Enneagram, Solution Focused Brief (FBT), Strength-Based and trauma-informed approaches.

I believe people have the capacity to change if provided a safe environment in which to recognize and overcome obstacles or barriers to personal happiness. I am passionate about seeing people experience freedom and seeing lives healed.

Over the past 20 years in the Mental Health field, I have had the privilege to walk with individuals and couples through difficult times. This experience has given me the perspective that even though we may face extraordinary challenges, if provided with the right tools and understanding, overcoming becomes natural.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space. Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.
