More about Susan

  • 8 years' experience
  • Female
  • LCSW

Hi! I am a licensed clinical social worker in Virginia and Colorado, and I have made my home in both places in recent years. Nearly eight years of experience has afforded me the opportunity to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds who range in age from five to over 90 years old. Early on I expected to find a preferred population; however, it turns out that I just like working with humans. Commonalities and strengths are always evident to me, even in the face of struggle and adversity.

Seeking health and wellness is admirable. Mental health diagnoses contain lists of symptoms that are common to the human experience, and as such, I believe are always addressable. Belief in human worth and capacity for growth are fundamental. As your therapist I will consistently regard you with respect and engagement. I believe that warmth and humor are vital in therapy as in any relationship.

I look forward to embarking upon this journey with you!

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

Susan helped me change my life for the better. I was skeptical of therapy before but it turns out that I just needed a very safe space and someone who approached me gently. It has been such a wonderful experience and I don’t think I would’ve gotten the best out of therapy if it wasn’t for Susan’s genuine concern and care for me.

Susan has helped me more in a few months then I’ve been able to help myself in over a decade. She’s not only nurturing and very attentive, but provides her insights and explains concepts in a way that allow me to explore and process them in a healthy way on my own outside of sessions. Would absolutely recommend her/BetterHelp to anyone I know!

Susan has been such a thoughtful, supportive counselor. She takes time to listen and asks questions that get to the heart of a conflict or situation I'm experiencing, helping me recognize what is going on. She has helped me think about issues in new ways and offered strategies for success that I can take with me into the future. Thank you Susan!

Susan is excellent at listening, empathizing, and offering thoughtful, constructive comments based on what I have previously told her in regards to my own motivations, fears, and goals. She’s the perfect sounding board for all of my questions, thoughts, concerns, or worries. I feel like Susan genuinely cares about my well-being and is excellent at challenging me gently and respectfully if she feels I may be conducting self sabotage-like behavior. I’m very thankful to have her as a therapist.

I have been resisting trying therapy again for years despite my failing mental health because of a poor first experience with therapy when I was a teenager. When I reached out to Susan, I didn't really know what to expect or if this would be something I would stick with. I can say with 100% confidence that trying betterhelp and talking to Susan has changed my life for the better. Susan is patient with me and listens very well. She sends me thoughtful messages and remembers details about my life which shows that she truly cares about my wellbeing. I cannot recommend her enough! 10/10 stars for betterhelp and Susan.

Reviewed January 2021

Susan has been an absolute blessing in my journey towards healthier thoughts and behaviors. She always allows me to talk as much as I want to get my thoughts out, and then frames her own input as something for me to consider while trying to reach my own conclusions, rather than just making her own conclusions and then telling me what they are. In this way I believe I am recognizing obstacles and unhealthy behavior quicker and more consistently. I cannot praise Susan’s efforts enough. She is extremely professional, an excellent listener, and shows genuine concern and care for my well-being.
