More about David

  • LICSW

I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) with over 30 years of experience providing mental health services and behavioral supports to youth and families in diverse settings. I recently retired from Minneapolis Public Schools after 20 years working with youth and families of students with anxiety disorders such as school phobia, self-injurious behaviors, eating disorders, learning disorders, focus and attention concerns. I facilitated family change groups, Native student groups, LGBTQ+ and grief and loss support groups. Prior to Minneapolis Public schools, I worked in a variety of settings including the Center for Victims of Torture, The Minneapolis Crisis Nursery, and supervised ICF/MR group home facilities for young adults with multiple disabilities. I have also worked as a community organizer.

I draw from an eclectic array of treatment modalities including Cultural Informed Trauma Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Insight Therapy, Mindfulness Meditation, and Yoga Calm. Treatment will be based on goals we set together. The ultimate goal will be to help you develop your internal resources, tools, and social support networks to sustain a healthy, meaningful, and fulfilling life.

I am a white male in my early 60’s. I have been involved with equity and social justice work my entire adult life. I live in, have worked in, and highly value multi-racial and multi-cultural communities. I read and speak Spanish, have lived and traveled extensively in Central and South America.

My pronouns are he/him. I live in South Minneapolis with my wife of 39 years. I am a yoga and mindfulness meditation practitioner. I enjoy singing, playing my guitar, swimming, and biking.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.
