Nancy is more than just a good listener- she is a fount of resources and genuine empathy. Life can be insanely complicated and she absolutely gets me- a feeling I have very rarely had with past therapists and counselors.

Ms. Cook has been phenomenal. I've actually discussed with her that a lot of her advice is common sense- this isn't to say it's simple or not useful- my point would be she is very sensible and sometimes we just need a voice of reason to connect with. She always responds promptly- even on weekends or when I don't expect answers at all.

Hello! Welcome to our BetterHelp community! My name is Nancy Cook and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Missouri. I have been providing psychotherapy for a wide variety of issues and populations for twenty years. I graduated from Webster University in 2002 with a Master’s in Counseling. For The majority of my career, I have provided therapy as an Independent Counselor and School-Based Therapist. In my independent practice I provide counseling for domestic violence and/or sexual abuse victims, individuals suffering from stressful, traumatic life events such as, the death of a loved one, victim of a crime, job loss, abuse, addiction, and diagnosis of a serious physical illness. As a school-based therapist I provide counseling to individuals and their families for learning disabilities, school motivation, health issues, grief & loss, divorce/separation, stress/anxiety management, social skills, self-esteem, juvenile offenders and their families. As a School-Based Therapist and Certified Psychological Examiner I have fifteen years of experience providing testing (WISC-V, K-BITT, KTEA) aiding in the evaluation and diagnosis of learning disabilities, School Based Autism, ADHD/ADD, or Other Health Impairments that may qualify a student for Special Education (IEP), 504 accommodations, and/or related services. I have helped many parents navigate through the special education evaluation process and to ensure their child receives the appropriate services.

I would describe my approach as goal oriented, and client centered. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). Both modalities are hands-on, practical approaches to problem-solving. CBT treatment usually involves efforts to change thinking patterns and or behaviors. The goals are to change patterns of thinking or behavior that are behind difficult situations, and so change the way they feel. This helps people identify faulty or unhelpful ways of thinking and learn better ways of coping with life's full variety of stressors.

Life is a journey and like every great journey, it has its ups and downs, certainties, and uncertainties. I am dedicated to helping people experiencing both situational and long-term problems. My goal is to help improve your social and emotional wellbeing through therapy and psychoeducation. Real and enduring change happens one step at a time. I believe in you and your desire to improve. When you ready to jump in, take- action and make some real changes I look forward to helping you with the challenges you are facing.

It is convenient for those who may have trouble getting to or would prefer not to have in-person therapy appointments. Starting at $65 per week, online counseling is generally more affordable than in-person counseling. A study by researchers at University of California, Berkeley found that online counseling can be just as effective as face-to-face therapy while being more convenient, affordable, and accessible.
