Welcome to Better Help and congratulations on your decision to invest time into yourself! Deciding to engage in the therapeutic process is often filled with conflicting feelings and can feel overwhelming. In the next steps, you are about to embark on the challenge of self-improvement.

My name is Maureen and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in New York State for fifteen years. I graduated from Columbia University's School of Social Work in 2005 with a concentration in clinical services. My first job was in an all-male after-school program in the diverse neighborhood of Flushing, Queens. While at my job, I provided group therapy, short-term counseling, and behavioral management plans for males between the ages of 5-18. After living in NYC for 4 years, I relocated back to Central New York to work as a behavioral therapist in an evidence-based home-based therapy in Syracuse, NY working with adolescents at-risk for out-of-home placement.

Currently, I am the Supervisor for Family Behavioral Health Services for a rural county in Central New York. My role in the clinic started as an outpatient therapist working with children to adults to the elderly providing individual counseling for depression, anxiety, challenges with relationships, and other life stressors.

I believe everyone is doing the best they can and they are motivated to better. It is my role as a therapist to facilitate the change process through the development of new skills. As a therapist, I will assist you in navigating the process of acceptance and change. Life is a constant balance between accepting life as it AND learning skills to make effective change.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space. Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.
