Gary was an exceptional therapist! His appointments are relaxed and he makes it easy to talk through things. He is very open and somehow manages to help you come to decisions on your own, but with the assistance of his gentle guidance. His techniques are very empowering! I highly recommend Gary for anyone needing counseling!

Hi there, I am Gary. My 25 years of experience includes a background in education, guidance counseling, social work, and mental health treatment. I have worked in both public and private school settings, outdoor youth treatment programs, residential youth treatment programs, and outpatient settings. I hold a Master’s degree is in Psychology, though I have several years of training, and practical experience beyond the degree. One of the best things a client can say to me is "You are not like other therapists I have worked with." I would like to think I am unconventional. I try to keep things real and down to earth, working to find practical solutions to everyday challenges. I live in a smaller community and have always lived and worked in rural settings.

I have maintained a private practice since 2006. My clinic is licensed for out-patient mental health and substance abuse treatment. Most of my clients struggle with depression and anxiety. I also work with couples and have extensive experience in working with families in conflict and working with troubled teens. My experience includes working with clients who struggle with addictions as well.

I am proud to have co-authored a book with my niece, Lacey West, RN. The book, “Living in the Light – How to fight the darkness of depression and anxiety”, was published in 2013. Throughout my life I have been actively involved in my community in several volunteer capacities. For about 14 years I have volunteered with my State’s Critical Incident Stress Management team which provides crisis debriefings and related intervention services to emergency services and first responder personnel throughout the state. I have been married for 29 years. My wife is also a clinical therapist. We have three children and enjoy traveling and spending time together. One of our recent adventures was to get our scuba certification. I love people and my life has been mostly one of service to others. I hope you will give me the opportunity to use my experience to serve you as well.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space. Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.
