I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Washington State with my Master's in Mental Health Counseling and Addiction. My focus has been on treating Co-occurring addiction and trauma disorders for the last six years. I work with Veterans and civilians dealing with PTSD. I am an evidence based focused therapist and also use Motivational Interviewing to aid in processing barriers to change.
I believe it's important to meet my patients where they are at and to help them reach their goals through compassion, education and providing a non-judgmental environment to explore their past and present experiences. I welcome and encourage family engagement to the extent my patient is comfortable. Therapy is a privilege for me to provide to any patient willing to allow me to join part of their journey. I will provide a safe environment for you to explore, learn and grow in the direction you choose. I am not here to to tell anyone how to live only to reflect and explore the impact your thoughts and emotions have on your life. To be transparent with my patients I do share that when in a video session you will notice that I wear dark glasses to help me with a chronic light sensitivity issues. BetterHelp doesn't allow me to wear these in my photo but it is something I do wear at all time. If you have questions please don't hesitate to ask.
I currently live in Japan. Due to the time difference I will have limited options that work for my Washington State clients.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.
Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

I have recently started therapy and Lauren is my first ever therapist. I was nervous in starting, but Lauren has made the experience so much easier. I feel very open with her, even though ive only had a couple sessions. Her patience and insight during our discussions has so far helped me gain a better understanding of myself, and in untangling some of my negative and distorted beliefs.
Laura is amazing at what she does and never hesitates to call me out when I need it. She often sees where my struggles are before I do, and gives me the tools I need to improve.
She is the best, honest and understands my values and thoughts before I can!
Very easy to communicate with. Great availability and knowledgeable and understanding. Offers great resources and references when indicated.
Working with Laura has been great so far after only two sessions. She listens well, is kind, patient and provides valuable insights.
*a stereotypically long and detailed ADHD-er review :) Laura and I clicked right away! I'm 30 years old, and a few months ago I realized for the first time that I probably have ADHD. The more online tests and information I was reading, the more confused and distanced I felt from my normal self until I felt utterly lost and overwhelmed. This was my first time doing therapy and after just one video session with Laura I felt a huge sense of joy and hope return back to my heart. Talking to her is so easy and comfortable. She cares deeply, really truly listens, is gentle yet straightforward in calling out changes I need to make in my life. Although she doesn't specialize in ADHD, she has people in her life that experience ADHD (some that are also therapists too!) and I found that she had huge amounts of wisdom on the topic. Cognitive behavioral therapy is what she IS versed in, which happens to be one of the most effective ways to manage ADHD, and as I started applying my new strategies, I instantly noticed the positive effects on my life! Unlike my overwhelming google information overload, she listened to my struggles and was able to provide me with worksheets and life tools that were perfectly catered to where I was at in my journey! She coached me through the struggles of being my own advocate in a world thats unfortunately full of ADHD stigmas. When I asked her advice on trying medication she gave me great information and I appreciated that she was neutral on the topic and respected whichever route I chose to take. I found huge comfort in talking with her as I processed my emotions as I went forward in visiting my doctor and receiving my official ADHD diagnosis, trying medication for the first time, and dealing with frustrating experiences with pharmacists and nurses. After 2 months of weekly sessions I have a new foundation to stand on of knowing who I am and what I'm experiencing... and the difference between the two! I have hope and joy again. I feel in charge of my life and equipped with new tools (catered to the specific way that my brain works) to battle procrastination, identify distractions, set healthy boundaries, set up structure and self-discipline, stay productive, prioritize, say no, navigate my emotions, handle criticism & praise appropriately, and communicate well with my husband! I love Laura and I believe that anyone who gets matched with her is super lucky! THANK YOU LAURA AND BETTERHELP!!! You've changed my life!
Laura is great, tells me exactly what I need to hear and it is so appreciated!
