Hello! I am Rebecca L. Cohen, EdD, LPC. I am a licensed counselor in Alabama. I have a great love of learning and helping others learn and grow in their own lives. Currently I am focusing my work with women. My love of learning has offered me the opportunity to gain my Bachelor Degree in Human Services and English, Master of Education, Emphasis in English, Master of Science, Counseling and Psychology, and lastly Doctorate of Education in Counselor Education and Supervision. I have worked most of my career in social service areas. Some populations and areas I have worked in and with are children and families dealing with abuse and neglect, teen and young adults in foster care, depression and anxiety issues, LGBTQ+ community, substance abuse treatment, and trauma.

I would describe my counseling style as person centered. I have always been drawn to Choice Theory/Reality Therapy. I also utilize CBT, DBT, and Motivational Interviewing to aid clients in learning new skills. I love to learn from my clients and to be a partner in their journey to reaching goals. I believe you are the expert about your life and I am only here to aid in your journey and help you find answers or learn how to better cope with issues in life. It takes courage to open up and to be vulnerable in therapy, and I respect that courage.

I look forward to being a partner with you on your journey, whatever that journey might be. I am looking forward to being able to help give you support and a safe place to grow. I can't wait to meet you and start working with you.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space. Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

Rebecca has been incredibly helpful to me as I came to terms with having Generalized Anxiety Disorder. I went to her for help and coping mechanisms before a diagnosis and then received the diagnosis which was more or less expected, but still stung. She's helped to guide me through this journey, enabling me to make the most of the medication my doctor prescribed me. I couldn't have made as much progress as I have without her. Thanks so much, Rebecca!
