More about Cynthia

  • 27 years' experience
  • Female
  • LMFT

I have been a licensed marriage family therapist in California for over 27 years. I am what some people would call a "wounded healer", because I have been sober 35 years. I am also in recovery from co-dependency and love addiction. I believe anyone can change their life for the better, because I have changed mine for the better. If you love someone who does not love you back, I can help you STOP loving them and help you to start loving yourself. If you cannot say no, I can teach you how to say NO in a kind way and mean it.

In addition to the areas mentioned above, I can also help you to over come anxiety/panic and depression. I use cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) and psychodynamic therapy to help you to make the changes you want to make in your life. You are always in control of your therapy and you decide

I have been in the client's chair, so I know first hand that it takes courage to begin the journey to a better life. You do not have to journey alone ; I will be your companion. All journeys begin with the first step. Take that first step today.

I would be honored to work with you.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

Reviewed January 2023

I would recommend Cynthia Cunningham to lots of people. I think she has a unique niche for working with me as a first responder. Not sure how she developed this skill, cause I don't know her to have experience as a first responder. She is able to help me work on myself in a way I can not explain. Most therapists look tu react or make comments about my life experience that suggest my life is kind of crazy. But Cynthia Cunningham is able to hear me and understand my line of work dose make me more prone to trauma & instead of suggesting I leave the work place like several other therapists have she provides me a tool box of methods to work through the inevitable.

Cynthia has been the loveliest experience of a first therapist. It is exactly what I needed at this time in my life, and in just a couple months I'm already feeling changes in my mindset and in my life. I feel very seen and validated and feel like when I'm talking with Cynthia I can be completely honest about myself which is a beautiful thing. She has helped me acknowledge and move through pain I was too intimidated to face on my own. Yay!! Would definitely recommend to my close family members and to anyone.

Cynthia is a wonderful person. As someone who is new to therapy she didn't make me feel like I was being picked and prodded as I thought it would be like. She helps me understand my emotions and what they mean and helps me think logically and critically for my own benefit. She helps me feel like a human being again.

I am amazed at BetterHelp's capability to select a therapist that seems perfect for me. Cynthia seems to know what I am going through and have the perfect questions to help me get to the root of the issues. Prior to therapy with Cynthia, I had a hard time really opening up 100%. So the kind of questions Cynthia gave me helped tremendously because it allowed for me to be transparent with myself. I noticed significant improvement in my moods and behavior within a week of therapy with Cynthia. I'm very busy so I love that I can message Cynthia any time during the day and get a same-day response. I wholeheartedly recommend Cynthia.

Reviewed June 2021

Cynthia is very receptive and supportive. I love how she is not judgmental and very neutral so we can focus on the core issues.

Reviewed May 2021

Cynthia is warm and kind. But perhaps more importantly, In just a couple of sessions, she has shown me how uncommonly incisive and insightful she is. This is not my first foray into talk therapy. I have had great and not-so-great therapists. She definitely lives among the former.
