Hello there, I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida. I have been working as a Mental Health/Addictions Counselor since 2012. I specialize in Addictions and Mental Health issues, and working with adults. I graduated from Troy University with a masters in counseling and psychology in 2016. As well as being a fully licensed mental health counselor in the state of Florida, I also hold certifications as a Nationally Certified Counselor and as a Certified Master's Level Addictions Professional.

For the years that I have been working as a therapist, I have developed a theoretical approach that is predominantly based on client-centered, solution-focused and cognitive behavioral therapy. Although I tend to lean to these approaches, I do consider myself to be eclectic, meaning that I will draw from different therapeutic approaches as needed for each individual. I have an extensive amount of experience providing therapy in different environments to individuals with a wide range of personal issues, including substance abuse/dual diagnosis, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, PTSD, trauma, anxiety, depression, stress, anger, self-esteem, grief, and family problems.

My focus as a therapist is to help individuals heal, energize, and get to the place where they can feel, think and act in the ways that they are searching for. I am also a spiritual individual that relishes helping clients develop a deeper spiritual connection, a more confident sense of themselves and their strengths.

I look forward to working with you, and I promise to be there for you every step of your journey.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space. Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

Where do I begin. I still have a long way to go but I came a long way. I am pursuing opportunities I would have been very anxious to ever try. I have been misdiagnosed so many times and in my very first phone call with James, I felt hope. He made me feel understood, safe and normal. I thought I was just anxious, vigilant and depressed, and manic.. . I thought that was livable enough.. I have accepted that was my fate, after a series of abuse. I have no doubt in my mind that I will be better. I have every hope and faith...from hopeless to hopeful. Thank you to BetterHelp. Thank you to James Malone.

I cannot recommend James highly enough. He helped me so much with the severe bouts of anxiety I was suffering from and my sessions with him allowed me to change up the way I was thinking/handling the obsessive thoughts I was having. After working with him for a few months I can genuinely say I feel substantially better equipped to handle my anxiety, whenever it gets to me again. I learned a lot about myself and feel that I understand my mental health and how to keep it in check more than I ever have. James is a genuinely kind, understanding and non-judgemental person - and his sense of humour can really help to brighten your situation and put a smile on your face. Thank you for everything, James!

James is awesome. He checks in on me via text a couple of times a week and he also listens. I don't share many things with anyone and I feel so comfortable with him I told him things I would never tell anyone. James is very honest and straight forward and I like that in people. Looking forward to continuing to work with James.

Reviewed April 2020

James has been a tremendous help in guiding me through an extremely traumatic event. He has helped me to see the correct and faulty thinking I might harbor about this event. We took side-trips and explored other events and relationships that were connected to the traumatic event, some of them more closely than others. James was always available to talk to me through a variety of different media. I appreciated the ease of contact. I wouldn't say that all my issues are "solved" but I feel like I have a better understanding of certain events and better tools to manage them with.

Reviewed April 2020

James is attentive, supportive and kind. I appreciate his comfortable approach and the reminders he sends to take care of myself, and the positivity he expresses.
