More about Karen

  • 12 years' experience
  • Female
  • LCSW

I am a licensed clinical social worker and certified trauma professional. I graduated from the University of Central Florida with a BSW in social work, a certificate in Addictions, and an Master's in clinical social work. I have worked with clients experiencing anxiety, panic attacks, agoraphobia, borderline personality disorder and depression; clients with a history of physical and psychological abuse, self harm, sexual abuse, and other traumas.

I utilize a combination of traditional talk therapy, education on how trauma affects our brains, and implementation of practical tools and action steps to achieve the changes you want to make in your life. I believe talk therapy is helpful but that it takes action to reprogram your brain's reactions to triggers. Most clients I have worked with who are experiencing any form of anxiety believe they are crazy. I assure you it is not crazy. Your brain is meant to function in the way it does to protect you. I also wholeheartedly believe physical and mental health are intertwined. I will ask you to experiment with new techniques and reactions to triggers and difficult relationships. I provide the knowledge of tools and techniques but you are the expert on you.

Generally, I start with getting to know you and what you want to work on. We move into education on your specific diagnoses and on brain function and how we can reprogram. We begin taking small steps using tools I will teach you. All I need is for you to be willing to experiment with new techniques and reactions to difficult situations and people, and to let me know if the specific technique does not work for you so we can try another. Those steps have been as small as having clients who experience agoraphobia sit in a different room for 5 minutes, simple but not easy. I will also focus on your physical health and activity level. There is much research that shows some type of physical activity is helpful. I myself have experienced this. I am a hiker, an activity leader for the Florida Trail, and wilderness first aid certified. I hike, when I am inactive I definitely experience mood changes. If hiking is not your thing that is okay. We will find something that works for you.

Karen's human and realistic approach is refreshing among the load of professionals that don't know what they're talking about and struggle to meet the client where it's most needed.

Jun 2024

Meeting Karen was like finally finding someone who spoke my language and knew exactly what I needed. Caring, tough, eye opening, and down to earth, Karen has always made me feel comfortable like I was speaking to a friend, but that friend actually had helpful advice. She always checks in and responds when I need it. I couldn't have found a better therapist ♡

What I like about Karen Brady is her more holistic approach. She presents herself as a human being with a life, and less as a therapist on a pedestal, who knows better. This helps me with building trust and feeling heard.

Nov 2022

Karen helped me navigate a very difficult time. My experience involved trauma (remote), narcissistic partner breakup, coping with large move, family member’s death. I graduated from therapy yesterday!!!

Karen Bradt, helped me understand how the Truama Bond started. What needs to happen, for me to disentangle myself from this situation. To start the healing process.

M.E.·Mar 2022

Karen has provided on target counsel. I basically gave her word vomit of my challenges in our first session and she has helped me filter through and prioritize my work. I am offered “ homework “ which keeps me focused and thinking. She shares appropriate resources. Karen calls me on evasive answers and helps direct my realizations of what I need to focus upon during session. She has been available at a level I appreciate. This is not my first rodeo, so to speak, but my sessions with Karen are definitely more effective in my life.

D.I.·Sep 2021

Karen is legit. She’s very well educated and will give you other sources to support what she says. She’s also fun to talk to. I always feel much better after I have a session with her.

S.Y.·Jun 2021

Karen was extremely helpful to me on our very first visit. She absolutely understood me as a person and offered suggestions to meet my needs. She is a very warm and humerus person. We laughed alot. Thats just what I needed. She immediately felt like a friend. I applied some of her suggestions and it is changing my life. She is truly special.

C.H.·Apr 2021

Karen helped me manage my bipolar depression and anxiety for a couple of months. I had struggled with motivation and taking my medication for years, and had several therapists try to convince me to take them. Karen got me to take it consistently. Thank you.

S.U.·Mar 2021

Working with Karen has been extremely helpful and enjoyable to me. Our sessions got me through a very difficult time and brought me a lot of personal growth. She is a great listener and always helped me reframe my thinking or learn the skills I needed to deal with my problems. I truly enjoyed my time with her and am better off for it.

J.U.·Feb 2021

Karen has been great from the get go. I really felt like she was supportive. She followed up on my messages and wrote kind, supportive replies which was what I really needed at this rough time. She even messaged when I wasn’t in touch for a while. It’s still early days but looking forward to speaking to her soon.

N.O.·Jan 2021

I can say it in a few words: "Karen saved my life." She continue leading me out of the very dark place where I am blinded by my emotions towards the light of the normal life.

T.A.·Sep 2020

I’ve already told sooo many people to join better help

T.I.·Sep 2020

Karen is a great listener, she is always there for you. She offers great advice, she offers materials and worksheets that can guide you on your journey. She practically takes you "above" the problem,to see it from all angles and she guides you towards the solution. When i talk with her, it feels natural and comfortable. And she truly cares about you, so she will guide you towards your better self everytime you talk. She doesn't hide what needs to be heard and she won't say you are always right, but she is there to help you find out what is right for you and for those around you, because we are all human and it's alright to understand that everybody might have a different point of view than you on a matter. She is a great counsellor, very professional and she will make her way to your heart in no time.

A.N.·Aug 2020

We have met once and Karen was so helpful. I’m very much looking forward to the next meeting. She has a great way of keeping the meetings and objectives palatable and the meetings are easy going. She has an air of grace about her and she’s very easy to talk to. She offers sound advice and counseling grounded in the principles she has learned and I feel safe sharing with her. She is wonderful!
