I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Missouri . I received Master's degree in general counseling from the University of Missouri-St. Louis and a doctorate in counselor education/ marriage and family therapy from St. Louis University. I practice from a convenience model that includes client-centered, cognitive and behavioral therapies. I have worked with individuals with a wide range of presenting issues including depression, anxiety, poor self-esteem, relationship issues and communication issues.
I have four years of experience as a school counselor and director of counseling for a school district in the mid-west. I started a private practice in 1998 and currently work with children, adolescents and their families. I have ten years of experience as a college professor of counseling at several tier one universities.
I have particular experience working with couples helping them to solve communication and intimacy issues. For the past five years I have added older adults to my case-load helping them to use positive life skills to enrich their lives. I think that I can help by providing a listening ear to assist individuals to look at their issues critically and practically. I bring optimism and hope by helping to validate the feelings of individuals that allow me to work with them.

Online counseling, sometimes called teletherapy, refers to talk therapy delivered remotely through digital platforms, such as video calls, phone calls, or chat. It can be a great option for people who face barriers to traditional face-to-face therapy, such as those living in remote areas, individuals with mobility issues, or people with busy schedules that make it difficult to attend in-person sessions.
Teletherapy also offers greater convenience and flexibility, allowing clients to access care from the comfort of their homes. Research shows that the treatment outcomes with online counseling are often just as effective as with traditional therapy, providing a viable alternative for individuals seeking mental health support.

She is my rock right now.
She is engaged. And that means a lot
she is very helpful, provides tools, and follows up on you.
What can I say? She’s marvelous!
Thank you for your wisdom and for helping me and my husband understand each other’s needs and communicate with love.
Vivian has been amazing to work with. She is helping me gain perspective on my life and is really easy to talk to.
Vivian was excellent. She listens and empathized with me. She helped me to challenge my thoughts to make positive changes.
Vivian was great. She was direct and quick to respond. She helped me understand how important taking care of myself is and offered great worksheets.
I was feeling very hopeless about a certain relationship that was greatly troubling me. Honestly, all I expected counseling to offer me was a safe place to talk about the issue… a sympathetic ear. But in my very first session Dr. McCollum completely “got” the situation. I felt heard and seen. She has given me hope that this relationship can become better. Or at least that I can become better at handling it! Talking to Dr. McCollum is like talking to a really smart, really experienced friend and I’m so grateful to have found her.
I have only had one session with Ms. Vivian but that one session confirmed I selected the right therapist for me. She is definitely an expert in her field but she is more than that. She is genuine, she cares, and she's in it with you. She's there to support you and help you navigate your journey.
I really enjoy working with Vivian, she listens to my concerns and provides great feedback and techniques to help me achieve my emotional goals.
Thank you for everything
Vivian has been great. She’s offered me some tools almost immediately after our first session. She makes me feel very comfortable in our talks. Highly recommend.
She is ready to listen and advises accordingly. I would recommend
I have had the pleasure to work with Ms. Vivian and she has helped me with all my personal issues. I have been a blubbering mess to being super happy. Whatever state I was in she was there to listen and suggest a better course of action. She never judged and I felt safe to tell her exactly how I was feeling. Ms. Vivian was not only my therapist but also my friend.
She very kind and she always check up on me
Vivian helped me through grieving the loss of a family member. As a kidney donor who lost his donee (and cousin) last year, I thought my struggle might be a little too niche to find help. She guided me through it all by listening, sharing her own personal stories, and advising accordingly. Outside of my goal of getting through grief, she heard every little concern and anxiety I have in life and met them with invaluable philosophies and lessons that I came to call "Vivianisms." She is a uniquely insightful individual who has lived a lot of life and gathered a plethora of wisdoms. I'm taking a break from therapy now but I feel equipped with new tools and exercises (and Vivianisms) to get me through anything thanks to her counseling.
Vivian has been a cheerleader and a coach when I needed both! I'm so grateful she helped me get to the next stage of my mental health journey. She's willing to challenge me and question me, which was more valuable to me than a lot of what my previous counselors did. I absolutely recommend her.
Competent, good listener, has good questions.
Vivian is very warm and thoughtful. She has a lot of experience in this field. She understands what you are going through, listens to you deeply and helps you overcome the situation. I highly recommend her!
Great so far and hopeful for the future
I have a very difficult time with her IT. I could never get Doctor McCallum on my computer and it is difficult sometimes on the phone. I was asked to change my code and I don’t know why. Are we doing something wrong as far as connecting through your IT?
Dr. MCcollum is warm and receptive. Although this is my first time speaking to a therapist, I felt relaxed with her. She was easy to talk to.
Dr. Vivian McCollum is amazing. She’s soo patient and respectful. She is personable and literally feels like you’re talking to like a auntie or family not a “dr”. So very warm and inviting. She helped me just by always being available via chat or video whatever. She helped me see my true value and her techniques were thoughtful and I really felt like she cared. If I was away or hadn’t had a meeting for some time, she always made sure to check on me and inquire about my well-being. Thank you so much Dr. V.
Dr McCollum is a genius. Love her. Sometimes it is hard because she asks really good questions and then I have to confront myself. The answer is one where I can answer it myself but don't want to. Facing my fears is within my own grasp. But Dr Vivian brings me to that recognition of my own power to heal myself.
Vivian is very to the point and asks me questions that are very helpful for me to better understand myself. With the short time we have I feel like I am able to get a lot out of our sessions.
I have worked with Vivian and find her to be very caring, knowledgeable and willing to help in anyway she can. She was very comforting and helped me quite a bit. I would not hesitate to use her again. Thank you
When I had an important event in my life that required Dr. McCollum's input, she willingly attended that event and spoke on my behalf (via the materials) she provided. I sincerely appreciated how supportive she was during that meeting (and is) especially because she was quite busy that day.

Vivian was extremely helpful in identifying the struggles I was having with assertive communication. She has a very warm and welcoming demeanor that instantly disarms you and makes you feel at ease as if you're talking to a close friend. She is very receptive and empathetic in her approach. I would highly recommend Vivian!
Vivian is helpful and kind, and helped me to find the root of my problem. She offers helpful suggestions and really takes the time to listen to my concerns. I appreciate how our session are conversational and I feel like I have an input in my therapy sessions. I would (and have already) recommend her.
