More about Laura

  • 8 years' experience
  • Female
  • LPC

I am a licensed professional counselor with 9 years of experience working as a counselor in a rural area. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, parenting problems, anger problems, career challenges, OCD and ADHD. I also helped many people who have experienced physical trauma or emotional abuse.

My counseling style is caring, warm, and interactive. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I don't believe in stigmatizing labels. My approach combines positive psychology, solution focused, cognitive-behavioral, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, trauma focused, client focused, and dialectical behavior therapy. My approach is based on how to help you move forward in your life, work through past issues, and figure out how to make a treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. I believe that therapy does not have to be intimidating and serious all the time to be effective and help you improve the way you feel.

It takes courage to seek for a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. If you are ready to take that step I am here to support and empower you.

I look forward to working with you!

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space. Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

She is a good listener and usually comes up with good suggestions for ways to move forward. I do not think I am the easiest person to coach so I give her credit for being patient and making suggestions that help me move forward.

Laura's expertise in EMDR is perfect for what I was looking for - a method for re-programming toxic thinking. She's intuitive and thoughtful - with a knack for helping me piece together issues that seemed unrelated into a cohesive holistic picture. She's great!

I left my in person counselor for BetterHelp after a few sessions with Laura. She’s been empathetic and has worked with me to set concrete goals for each week. It’s a refreshing approach and one that works very well for me. I love that she’s responsive to the journal entries I share with her and we have them as references during our sessions. I’m very happy to be working with Laura on the BetterHelp platform.
