More about Jalisa

  • 9 years' experience
  • Female
  • LCSW

My name is Jalisa and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over five years of experience providing therapy services. I have worked in a wide range of therapeutic settings to include: inpatient psychiatric hospital, residential behavioral treatment facility, a medical hospital (working within a pediatric intensive care unit), as well as within higher education. I have experience working with clients affected by depression, anxiety, substance use, trauma and relationship challenges from individual, group and family work.

While I use a variety of therapeutic modalities, my approach is extremely client centered. I believe that you, the client, are the experts on your life and determine the direction and depth of therapy. Through a strengths-based and solutions-focused lens, I draw on multiple treatment modalities to guide clients in identifying strengths and developing treatment plans that accomplish their goals. Through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I assist clients in exploring relationships among thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to aid in discovering dysfunctional thought patterns leading to self-destructive behaviors and beliefs. I am also trained in the evidence based model of Functional Family Therapy (FFT) where I view the entire family unit as the identified client, working to engage and motivate, facilitate behavior change, and generalize the skills learned to areas outside of the home.

I do not take it lightly that you have chosen me to support you during what may be a challenging time in your life. My hope is to aid you in living a more empowered and peaceful life!

My areas of interest include racial equality and ethnic diversity, women's empowerment, and the relationship between physical/mental wellness.

Should you feel in need of urgent help or that you are in crisis at any time during our work together; please call 1-800-273-TALK 24 hours a day; or 911. This forum does not provide any type of emergency services, so I want to be sure you know who to contact if you need immediate help.

I have only had one other therapist who could tune into me as well as Jalisa, and both are social workers. That means something. Jalisa KNOWS me and has/is tuning in to me so well which I think helps with her treatment decisions. She's not a "hard ass" to say the least but just that someone can "dial into me" makes me more motivated to do things in a smarter way and to find ways to deal with my *freaked up" life in more effective ways than I have in...well, since I was 5. I'm 53 now. I highly recommend her but you better not all line up and squeeze me out of her care! That is a big joke, please, no offenses.
