Great working with Cathryn!

Reviewed December 2023

I have been working with my therapist, Cathryn Charette, for over a year now. I am still in awe at how well we were matched! As a new counselor, I am grateful to have a therapist who not only collaborates with me in theoretical approaches in addressing my own past trauma, but is able to coach me in asserting professional boundaries at work to where I feel I am receiving clinical supervision as well as therapy. Being matched with Cathryn is making me a better counselor for my clients and I am eternally grateful.

I am a humanistic psychologist. I use an approach that emphasizes an individual's strengths and skills in a wholistic way to address issues that are distressing and limiting in a client's life. I help clients toward self actualization, the ability to better understand self and others, feel confident and secure in their abilities, understand their motivations and personality, address external stressors, and develop personal insight and a life philosophy that guides their decision making and problem solving.

I encourage self awareness and mindfulness to help clients respond consciously to events as they unfold, and to remain true to their worldview and values, while negotiating difficult circumstances in this chaotic world. Many of us did not have parenting that taught us conscious healthy boundaries, understanding of self and others, or secure trusting attachment, but these can be learned and amended through therapy. The term "earned security" is a psychology term that denotes an individual who remediates traumatic events, including: childhood trauma, adult trauma, and relationship trauma, and strengthens their core self concept to include greater self esteem, and a strong comfortable attachment system (post traumatic growth).

I know this because my experience in self development included all these, as well as a new understanding of self compassion, self acceptance, patience and a process of differentiation of self that allows for both autonomy and deep caring attachment simultaneously. I offer this knowledge in a non judgmental and wellness based framework. I draw from both professional experience and evidence based scientific research. I love to work with people from all walks of life, all ages, and diverse world views and focus on the human commonalities we share, as well as understanding a client's individual and specific experiences, needs, challenges and goals. I am inclusive, and supportive, patient and caring and passionate about helping others.

Online counseling, sometimes called teletherapy, refers to talk therapy delivered remotely through digital platforms, such as video calls, phone calls, or chat. It can be a great option for people who face barriers to traditional face-to-face therapy, such as those living in remote areas, individuals with mobility issues, or people with busy schedules that make it difficult to attend in-person sessions.

Teletherapy also offers greater convenience and flexibility, allowing clients to access care from the comfort of their homes. Research shows that the treatment outcomes with online counseling are often just as effective as with traditional therapy, providing a viable alternative for individuals seeking mental health support.

Love working with Cathryn! She always pays attention to all of my concerns, remembers details from previous conversations, and offers simple strategies and actions I can implement in my life right away. After every session, I know what I can do going forward to address my everyday and personal issues, what considerably strengthens my mental and emotional health. I really appreciate how she takes time to describe different psychological aspects which help me be more self-observant, empathetic, and patient with myself. She helped me a lot to reconnect with my feelings and emotions which I have been suppressing or misinterpreting for a while. This made my life so much brighter and easier. There is more work that needs to be done (addressing family issues), but a lot has been done already for the past 4 months or so! I feel I am the healthiest and anxiety-free as I've ever been. Thank you, Cathryn!

"When the student is ready, the teacher appears." This sums up how I feel about my therapist, Cathryn Charette. Her collaborative approach allows me to gain more self-confidence in myself. I feel as though I have gained not only a therapist, but a mentor - someone I would like to emulate in my own counseling work with clients. Better Help could not have done a better job in matching me with a therapist perfect for my needs.

Cathryn has been helpful in ways that I wouldn't have known I needed help until we started talking, she's great.

Now that I’ve had 4 sessions with Cathryn I feel more experienced and able to comment. I definitely feel seen and heard with Cathryn which helped me not feel so separate with the trauma and grief of my mothers sudden passing. Cathryn knows how to hold space and comes with so many great tools instead of being stuck in one, and so she has no agenda! Which, wow…refreshing to say the least. I am most excited Cathryn is experienced with Gestalt Therapy!! As far as I’m concerned THAT should be her specialty! That and Cathryns interpretations for me, gave me tools to use in MY everyday life and that helps me feel a part of my own approach with my grief. I also dug that she loves what she does. Nothing worse than working with in therapy and being able to feel they don’t like what they do or are fried from it. She’s also professional but in a very down-to-earth, relatable, way. That’s hard to find in a therapist these days. I love that BetterHelp has texting w/ your therapist. That adds a level of intimacy when not abused, that feels like it sets up the relationship from “I’m here and your there” - fear based I guess? Fear from the start of boundary crossing. I can speak with confidence to now say Cathryn is for anyone who is willing to actually do the work and is ready, I feel really lucky I was paired to Cathryn. In just a month I got much more than expected. If you get paired ask for Gestalt. I guess Cathryn knew what would make the difference for me, and it really did.. Thank you BetterHelp. You made a really isolating and immensely sad time, easier. I am very grateful.
