Julie is always attentive and insightful, she’s able to guide me to my own realizations and help me understand and cope with my emotions in a very kind and helpful way. She’s also not afraid to gently call me out when she feels like I’m not being true to myself or when I’m being too hard on myself or unrealistic. I consider myself lucky to have found a great therapist so quickly.

More about Julie

  • 12 years' experience
  • Female
  • LCSW

Hi, My name is Julie Alvarez and I'm and LCSW with 12 years of experience ranging from outpatient medical social work, inpatient, hospice, and mental health, ranging in ages from toddler to geriatric. I specialize in anxiety, depression, OCD, Autism Spectrum disorder, self worth and purpose, life coaching through changes, parenting skills, navigating the healthcare system and major illnesses, resources for geriatric referrals in the community, and supporting parents with children with disabilities.

My therapy style is warm and interactive, as well as realistic and meeting my you where you are at, to find solutions that will bring you to your personal goals of therapy. I believe in treating anyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I don't believe in stigmatizing labels. My approach combines solution focused, cognitive-behavioral, and rational-emotive therapy. However, I do believe we don't all fit into a box of a specific therapy format, and I will work with you to create personalized therapy objectives.

The first step to any change is recognizing a need to change. The next step is reaching out to someone to help you make that change. Be proud of yourself for getting this far, and be hopeful that help is on the way. I look forward to talking with you and learning about how we can work together for some positive change!

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space. Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.
