I have practiced therapy in a variety of settings with people of different ages. I bring experience from working in addiction treatment, mental health treatment, hospital outpatient clinics, social service agencies, and schools. My approach to therapy is to focus on the person instead of theory. Yes, I'm trained in many clinical approaches and I know each of those approaches is most effective when applied in a relationship with the client.
I've been trained by Native American, Hispanic, African American, Caucasian, and Asian therapists. Easy to talk to
I started working with Kirt at a point of transition in my life: my mother had recently died, I am nearing retirement, and I had taken on greater responsibilities at home. I was looking back over my life and realising that there were themes and issues I needed to explore so that I could understand myself better. Kirt was easy to talk with, and had a gentle style which I appreciated. He used a variety of tools and approaches to help me grapple with grief, anxiety and depression, and gave me a sense of perspective which really helped. The sessions with Kirt have made a huge difference in my life. I am continuing to think about questions that arose, working on skills he suggested and reading books he recommended. I plan to restart therapy with Kirt once I feel I have more questions and issues arising.
I have had several therapists in the last several years and honestly have liked them all. However, I did not know what was accomplishable in therapy until having the opportunity to work with Kirt. His honest and forward approach to problem-solving using clinical approaches have been an absolute change in my approach to therapy and life. We have our goals and work towards them together with check-ins on past goals as reminders. I can honestly say that I have gone from a low point in my life and am climbing the metaphorical mountain to a high point week by week with the assistance and support of Kirt. It has been a great pleasure to work with him and I look forward to continuing to do so.
