My name is Chanel Carlile and I am a licensed clinical mental health counselor in the state of Utah. I received my M.Ed. in clinical mental health counseling and B.S. in psychology. My primary focus is on the treatment of anxiety and mood disorders, though I have experience working with a wide array of concerns, including trauma, addiction, and co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. Because I have worked in both private practice and community-based mental health settings, I have treated a variety of issues ranging from panic and OCD to personality and psychotic disorders, and feel this breadth of experience has made me a well-rounded clinician.
I view therapy as an opportunity to assist you in finding practical tools to help decrease your current distress, while also addressing underlying causes/driving forces of such distress. Therapy is not one-size-fits-all, so I tailor established theories and evidence-based interventions to suit each of my clients’ unique personalities, situations, and values. Although my foundation is based on principles of humanistic and psychodynamic therapy, I also frequently pull from acceptance and commitment, strengths-based, cognitive behavioral, and narrative therapies.
While therapeutic approach does matter, research has shown that the best predictor of therapeutic outcomes is not one particular approach or strategy over another, but the therapeutic relationship itself. When I first set out on my own therapy journey, one of the most frustrating things was finding the “right” therapist—someone I clicked with and felt truly seen and heard by. There is power in connection, and I place a lot of value on forming authentic, caring, and respectful connections with each of my clients. I genuinely care about people and firmly believe that each of us is worthy just because we exist. Nothing you could do or say would change that belief. I want to hear about your whole self—the parts that are good, bad, ugly, scary, shameful, boring, average, exciting…I understand that people are complex and nuanced, and I want to help you see that all of those parts have value.
When I’m not seeing clients, I can generally be found collaging, crossword puzzling, or enjoying a good spoonful of peanut butter. I love collecting rocks, making up songs for my dog, and taking pictures of the sky. I’m an accomplished procrastinator and master self-roaster. I’ll forever hate putting away the laundry, and I frequently stay up way too late. But hey, I’m only human.

Online counseling, sometimes called teletherapy, refers to talk therapy delivered remotely through digital platforms, such as video calls, phone calls, or chat. It can be a great option for people who face barriers to traditional face-to-face therapy, such as those living in remote areas, individuals with mobility issues, or people with busy schedules that make it difficult to attend in-person sessions.
Teletherapy also offers greater convenience and flexibility, allowing clients to access care from the comfort of their homes. Research shows that the treatment outcomes with online counseling are often just as effective as with traditional therapy, providing a viable alternative for individuals seeking mental health support.

Overall rating:
Chanel has been so wonderful! She has given me new skills/tools to implement into my life, helped me work on boundries in relationships, work on my self worth, and exercises on handling my anxiety. She is very kind and caring. I highly recommend her!
Chanel is a great listener. She provides valuable tools and insights. All around, she cares about you and your goals.
Chanel is so kind and is a fantastic listener. She offers techniques to help you manage your life or just lets you vent if that’s what you need. I truly adore her. Ten out of ten!
She does a great job listening and taking time to understand your concerns. She genuinely cares about her clients and wants them to succeed.
I'd recommend Chanel for a variety of reasons. She is thoughtful and helpful, is a careful listener, and has a multi-faceted approach which I very much appreciate. She is also very willing to focus on clients' stated needs for a given session. I say this because I have several issues going on at once, but she's great about helping me stay focused (per my request) on the most pressing ones that I stated were my priority to work on for a given session. She also consistently follows through with communication as planned which is very helpful for me, as I myself can be a bit scattered.
