Hi, I’m Jonathan and I’m a qualified counsellor based in the UK, accredited by the National Counselling Society (NCS).

I offer a warm, relational, non-judgemental, and confidential space in which my clients can share and explore any difficulties they are encountering. I'm guided in how I work by the client's pace and rhythm.

I have experience working with clients from a wide range of backgrounds and with a range of difficulties, including stress and anxiety, depression, anger issues, motivation, self esteem, confidence, identity related issues, including lgbtq, relationship difficulties, and issues at work. Taking the first steps in seeking counselling takes courage. I'll support you in that process.

My practice is grounded in the humanistic person-centred approach. This means that I'll really listen to you and explore with you how you make sense of yourself and your issues, as well as others and the world around you. I find this to be a robust way of addressing difficulties brought, and that it can often also help with issues that aren’t directly talked about. For instance, counselling might in some circumstances help improve a person’s sleep even though their sleep difficulties haven’t been a main focus of the sessions, but where underlying psychological and emotional issues contributing to poor sleep have been explored.

I also draw on elements of other major counselling approaches (including existential, gestalt, psychodynamic and CBT) to help ensure that the counselling meets the unique needs of each client. Therapeutic writing and art exercises can also be incorporated where a client wishes to work in this way and where it would be beneficial.

I sometimes find that a gentle and meaningful humour can help give respite to the seriousness of counselling and can contribute to it positively. I work with compassion and open mindedness.

Qualifications:

Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling.

MA Counselling and Psychotherapy Practice.

PhD in ideology and politics of the regulation of the field of counselling and psychotherapy.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

Jonathan has been a fantastic help to me. His patience, empathy and understanding throughout my sessions with him have allowed me to face my issues and find a way to understand and deal with them. I can't recommend Jonathan highly enough, he has been an amazing help to me.

Reviewed May 2023

Jonathan is a good listener and is empathatic to his patients. Also, he has a very good depth and breadth of psychotherapy. I would recommend him for therapy covering many different issues.

Reviewed May 2023

Jonathan has been incredible, providing me with insight into my own thoughts and feelings and letting me lead the sessions. Before speaking to Jonathan I would have never opened up about how I felt or what I thought but through these sessions I have been given the courage and encouragement to do exactly that. I couldn’t recommend Jonathan enough.

Reviewed May 2023

Jonathan’s expertise is clear. He refrains from tackling specific issues, but more holistically, helps to shift the perspective of the patient regarding specific issues. I did notice that quite often, it’s my perspectives that create the negative thoughts, and that it’s the perspective usually that is a root cause, with the negative thoughts being the symptoms. I like this approach, and will continue working with Jonathan in the future. If you’re looking for a more holistic approach to therapy, I think you’ll be in good hands with Jonathan.
