“Why is this happening to me?” “How can I trust myself to make the right decisions?” “Will I always be a people pleaser instead of looking out for myself?” “Why can’t I be happy right now?” Are questions like these consuming your thoughts? Do you often experience feelings of helplessness and hopelessness?

Sometimes we need guidance to get past emotional turmoil and back on a path towards contentment in our lives. Therapy can help with navigating through life’s problems by setting and accomplishing goals to help you return to good mental health with personal and/or professional growth. Therapy is an inviting place where every single part of you is welcome, even the parts that are uncomfortable to share. You are encouraged to allow yourself to experience any emotion or thought freely.

Hello and welcome! I am from the great state of Texas and have been an accomplished psychotherapist for 30 years. I have a broad range of clinical expertise in assisting individuals, couples and families. I have experience in helping clients with stress and anxiety, trauma and abuse, depression, coping with grief and loss, as well as other equally important issues. It is my genuine hope that every client journeys along their therapeutic path with a renewed sense of understanding and self-appreciation.

This is truly my life’s calling and it is wonderful to be able to watch people make positive changes in their lives. Throughout the years, I have been able to build rapport quickly with compassion and empathy towards my clients who have ranged in ages from 4 to 104.

I have found that utilizing an integrative therapeutic approach is beneficial to meet each individual’s unique needs. This treatment, along with a wealth of life experience, offers a more flexible and inclusive perspective to assist in navigating through unhealthy lifestyle patterns.

The first step is the most difficult and here you are! Getting started can be pretty scary — to talk to someone you do not know about things that make you uncomfortable, sad, angry, overjoyed, or embarrassed — but I would like to reassure you that this process is here to help you grow. If you seek to have a voice in the direction of your therapy and view the therapeutic relationship as a partnership, then I welcome the opportunity to meet with you and begin your healing journey.

Tell me your story.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

Karen has been a God send. She has the patience, skills, training, wisdom, and insight to help guide me through some very complex issues of my past and present that involve a lot of trauma and wounding in childhood and in marriage. Karen is very patient, listens, takes notes, and is quick to respond in a timely manner with her insight and wisdom and sometimes suggestions. Karen will also send helpful materials that can help me grow through my problems or they will encourage me and give me hope when I most need it. She also sometimes offers perspective that I may not have thought about and helps me to know how to navigate through difficult and complex issues. I also love that she has a close relationship with God and encourages me through scripture. Karen truly cares about her clients and is always eager to help bring resolve, healing, and closure to any inner turmoil and unresolved issues. If you need a safe place and someone with keen insight and assessment, I highly recommend Karen! You will not be disappointed .

I have only had 3 sessions with Karen VanWyk so far. It’s still early in, however I believe I have been placed with a wonderful therapist. When Karen introduced herself and sent me her bio and professional background, I was very pleased and hopeful that she would be able to help me because her back ground, experience and training is extensive, impressive, and exactly what I’ve been searching for. In the past, I’ve had a couple bad counseling experiences that caused me to stop trying to reach out for help as I was hoping to learn how to navigate through relational issues as well, I needed help resolving areas of grief. However recently, I have come to the end of my road of trying to do this alone with just me and God. And I decided to give counseling one more try. I prayed for God to hand pick and guide me the counselor who would really care and listen, and who would know exactly how to help guide me to healing and wisdom on how to approach and handle certain relational issues and pressures that sometimes arise. I also prayed for someone who could help me to learn how to let go of long harbored sorrow, and help me heal from trauma that started way back in my childhood and then later again in my adult life. So far, I have found that Karen is a very patient listener, and stays very positive and her warmth and smile always puts me at ease. What I love about Karen is that after every session, she will respond fairly quickly with a summary of each therapy session and will extend her thoughts, perspective, and suggestions to help me. Karen seems to genuinely care about helping me. I’m taking it one day at a time, and I’m grateful that God let our paths cross and so far am hopeful that she can help me. I believe I have found a safe place in Karen and that means everything to me. We all need a safe place where we can become vulnerable in order to heal and not regret reaching out for help.
