I'm Jamie. I have chosen to practice person centred counselling because people have shown me, time and time again, that they know what is best for them.

I know that life events, relationship difficulties, challenges at work, experiences from our past can get in the way of us acting in our own best interests. Counselling with me is about taking time to acknowledge the difficult experiences and talking them through.

The type of counselling that I practice means that I don't give advice, I don't provide solutions, I don't fill silences and I don't judge the course of action that you choose to take. I want to stick with you as you deal with the contradictions, challenges and curiosity that life brings your way.

I have a certificate in Counselling Skills and a Masters degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy. My first degree is in Political Science and Social Policy - I'm passionate about social justice and that sense of wanting people to be included and free from shame underpins my therapeutic approach. I've delivered over 1,000 sessions of therapy through BetterHelp and 400 sessions in other therapeutic settings.

My desire to listen to you, properly, is based on my years of working with people who have gone unheard by others and who don't want to ignore themselves and their needs any more. I think that being heard and being supported as you confront your challenges can be transformational and I'm privileged you're thinking about working with me.

I'm based in Scotland and when we meet, I'll be in my therapy room: either at home, or in the community centre that I work out of.

Jamie is kind, non judgemental and supportive. I’ve had previous therapists who were very neutral and passive - which I understand but it can feel frustrating. I like that Jamie responds and validates my feelings, and even expresses his own opinion, and at the same time he always checks in with me that his observations are accurate. (They are!) I spend a lot of my life feeling like my emotions are too much, like they’re selfish, and I am not entitled to feel the way I feel. I couldn’t tell you exactly what it is he does, but the way Jamie listens and speaks with me makes me feel like I’m allowed to have my feelings, like I’m valid and deserve to exist. I can’t explain how much that means to me, but I think people who need this will know! On a more practical note, Jamie has always been punctual, reliable, and offered me flexibility when needed. I highly recommend him as a therapist.
