Hello, welcome to BetterHelp! I want to first congratulate you on taking this step into therapy and remind you that we are in this together. Life often gets in the way of making plans, and that can mean turning your world upside down. I am here to help you navigate and manage your feelings, and help you get on track to succeed.

My name is Amy Helm, and I am a licensed mental health counselor in the state of Massachusetts. I earned my mental health degree, specializing in addiction, from Cambridge College in 2014. I began working in the field in 2012, when I began my graduate school education. Over the past several years, I have worked in many different treatment facilities and have experience with addiction, depression, anxiety, acute psychotic disorders, and family therapy. My approach begins with person-centered therapy, emphasizing the importance of a working relationship between the client and therapist, in addition to keeping your goals as the main focus. Additionally, I practice cognitive behavioral therapy to help change and challenge thought patterns to help you become your best self.

Therapy works best when given 100% effort, and this is accomplished when both the client and the therapist work equally as hard to reach goals. I am here to work with you, to be your sound board, to help you manage and navigate your thoughts and feelings. My approach involves a judgement free environment, a safe place to talk through difficult and sometimes hurtful thoughts and information, and reflect on your experiences in order to improve how you are managing life.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

Amy helped me gain control over my anxiety during a particularly challenging time in my life. She listened intently, and never once passed judgement. I now feel like I have the tools I need to manage my anxious thoughts, and I’m in a much better place now than when I started therapy. Thank you, Amy!

I thank God for Amy. Honestly, she has really helped me process my grief and anger is a very productive, positive manner. She thinks differently than I do and I very much need that in order to change my thinking. She is extremely responsive, empathetic, and creative. I feel I am closer than ever to forgiveness and feel it's within my reach. That's because of her. She's amazing.
