More about Amber

  • 8 years' experience

I am a licensed mental health counselor in the state of Indiana and I have been working in the field for 8 years. I am certified in trauma focused cognitive behavior therapy and medication assisted therapy. I served in the Navy on active duty for 12 years. I follow two primary schools of thought when it comes to my therapeutic style/approach. The first is from Albert Ellis, each person continues with the patterns in their life until they are no longer willing to accept suffering, it is at this point that the individual decides to make the greatest effort towards change. The second is from Virginia Satir, each client is the expert of themselves and it is the coming together of the therapist, the expert in the field of the helping profession, and the client that creates the space for the client to work on their current concerns.

I have worked with clients who are looking for help in the following awareness: LGBTQ+ related needs, personality disorders with a primary focus on Borderline Personality Disorder, anxiety, OCD, complex trauma, military trauma, and communication patterns.

I believe this quote by Charlie Mackesy from the book: The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, and the Horse sums up my feelings regarding therapy perfectly; "Asking for help isn't giving up, it's refusing to give up."

Online counseling, sometimes called teletherapy, refers to talk therapy delivered remotely through digital platforms, such as video calls, phone calls, or chat. It can be a great option for people who face barriers to traditional face-to-face therapy, such as those living in remote areas, individuals with mobility issues, or people with busy schedules that make it difficult to attend in-person sessions. Teletherapy also offers greater convenience and flexibility, allowing clients to access care from the comfort of their homes. Research shows that the treatment outcomes with online counseling are often just as effective as with traditional therapy, providing a viable alternative for individuals seeking mental health support.
