More about Edward

  • 3 years' experience

My name is Edward, it’s great that you’re thinking about taking the first step to well-being and personal growth.

I began my journey into counselling and therapy 12 years ago, continuously expanding my expertise through various certifications and specialised training. My diverse skill set allows me to provide comprehensive and tailored support to my clients.

As a dedicated volunteer counsellor for the NHS and local charities in Devon, UK, I am committed to giving back to the community. In addition to my volunteer work, I manage a private practice in Barnstaple, UK, where I offer in-person counselling sessions.

To extend my reach and provide accessible support, I have also joined BetterHelp, offering online counselling to clients seeking flexible and convenient therapy options.

***************************************************************************

Life is complex and filled with unique challenges for each of us. Acknowledging the distinct paths we all tread, my aim is to create an open and accepting space where clients can feel truly listened to and understood. Whether it’s tackling anxiety or depression, improving relationships, or seeking personal satisfaction, my role is to be there with you on this journey of change, to focus on providing support and understanding whilst adapting various counselling techniques to fit your personal needs and goals.

As an integrative counsellor means I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches to provide the most effective support tailored to everyone’s unique needs. At the heart of my practice is person-centred therapy, a fundamental approach that shapes how I connect with every client. This means I prioritise understanding you from your perspective, valuing your autonomy and tailoring our sessions to support your personal journey. In addition to person-centred therapy, I blend elements from other therapeutic models as needed. This integrative approach allows me to adapt to the diverse challenges and goals you bring into our sessions, ensuring that the support I offer is as unique as you are.

I believe in being genuine and committed in my practice, aiming to build a safe and trusting space where you can freely explore your thoughts and feelings. This approach is designed to support your journey of self-discovery and healing, with a focus on personal growth and well-being.

Additionally, my counselling approach is not just about looking back but also building up your strength and setting goals for the future. This part of our work together is about enhancing your resilience and working towards achieving your aspirations, not just fixing past issues. By focusing on where you want to go, as well as where you’ve been, we can work towards not just overcoming challenges but thriving in the face of them. This balanced approach aims to equip you with the tools to handle what comes next, ensuring a future that’s not only healed but full of potential.

I follow the ethical guidelines set by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), which means that all sessions are held to the highest standards of professionalism and ethics.

Your mental and emotional health is my highest priority. If you’re ready to start on the path toward healing and growth, I encourage you to reach out. I promise to support you at every step of the way.

Edward is a kind, knowledgeable and supportive therapist who I would heartily recommend. After just 4 sessions I already feel that I am making good progress under his guidance...

Reviewed August 2024

I knew going into this that I needed the right feeling and response from a therapist if I was going to talk to them. I chose Edward after being matched with someone I didn’t think was a good suit and Edward was the only person I was willing to give a chance. If it wasn’t him, then I was out. Edward respected my insane perspectives and feelings about life, therapy, robots, accents, you name it. I thoroughly enjoyed talking to Edward and felt comfortable to share some of my thoughts with him. Although I’m not continuing, it’s certainly nothing to do with Edward. I am grateful for having him over the month and took a lot from the short time spent chatting. Thanks for everything, Ed.
