More about Tom

  • 29 years' experience
  • Male
  • Psychologist

Dr. Barbera earned his PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of New Mexico in 1997. He completed his internship with a specialization in Health Psychology at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. As an Active Duty Air Force Psychologist he worked at the Eglin Air Force Base Hospital for the first 4 years of his career and the Hurlburt Field Behavioral Health Clinic for 2 years. In 2001 he moved to Indiana to join the St. Vincent Family Medicine Residency Faculty. In 2019 he moved to Riverview Health in Noblesville, IN to help their healthcare system start a Behavioral Care Clinic.

I'm committed to providing evidence-based treatment for depression, anxiety, stress, burnout, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, insomnia, chronic pain, diabetes self-management, obesity, and nicotine addiction. My patients can expect to learn coping skills for managing their symptoms and improving their quality of life in a welcoming, relaxed, and compassionate environment. Typical between appointment homework includes: symptom monitoring, reading, writing exercises, and coping skills practice.

If you receive primary care services within the Riverview Health system in Hamilton County Indiana then I would be happy (and required to by my employment contract) to see you through our Behavioral Care Clinic.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.
