More about James

  • 14 years' experience
  • Male
  • Psychologist

My name is James "Bryan" Arnold, Ph.D. I am a licensed psychologist in Virginia and Washington, DC. I use a treatment approach that is prescriptive to the client; I tailor treatment to the specific client using the person's concept of their own identity and self-image, their history/background, and symptomology among other factors.

I believe in the power of circumstance and meaning-making; I believe circumstance and meaning-making contribute crucial emotional content and also influence the development of coping methods.

I have been a psychologist for the past 12 years. My work with clients has focused upon using refined counseling dialogue for emotional well being. I have worked with a variety of clients from across multiple treatment settings such as a community mental health, general hospital, crisis intervention, skilled nursing, and psychosocial/psychiatric rehabilitation.

I graduated with a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 2011, and before then with a Master's in Social Work in 2006.

I can help clients work through issues, resolve problems, and head off worsened symptoms. I am versed in Client Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Supportive Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Narrative Therapy, and Existential Therapy.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.
