Hi, my name is Paula, and I am a fully qualified accredited counsellor with BACP (British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy), trained and experienced in Person-Centred Counselling, Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
I am credentialed in the United Kingdom with over 18 years of clincial experience.
I am also an Armed Forces Veteran having served over five years in the Royal Navy. I left the RN to pursue a career in counselling.
My Approach:
I am open-minded, compassion-focused and work in a non-judgemental way. I provide a warm therapeutic space where you can safely explore your current difficulties.
As we are all different I tailor my approach to the unique needs and individuality of each client, meaning I work in a very authentic and non-prescriptive way.
Area of Expertise/Work Experience:
My areas of expertise are: depression; anxiety; recovery from narcissistic parental abuse; inner child work; psychedelic integration; people who identify as HSP (Highly Sensitive Personality); and spiritual awakening.
I work with all belief systems, and with people who don’t identify as having any spiritual beliefs.
I always work to the client's agenda and needs therefore I am flexible in the amount of sessions I can offer any individual client.
My professional work experience includes:
Alcohol Focus Scotland, 2005-2007 - Volunteer Counsellor.
Arch Initiatives, 2007-2015 - Substance Misuse Worker/Group Facilitator.
RASA (Rape & Sexual abuse charity), 2009-2010 - Volunteer Counsellor
Action on Addiction, 2019-2020 - Counsellor
Wigan, Wrightington & Leigh NHS trust, 2023-2024 - Staff Counsellor
I have been working in private practice since 2010. I have experience working with mild/moderate/severe mental health issues, trauma, loss and bereavement, low confidence and self-esteem, relationship issues, stress, anger, life transitions, and addictions.
As well as my core training I have integrated IFS (Internal Family Systems) into my approach. I find this to be a very compassionate and effective approach especially when dealing with addictions, trauma and self-sabotaging behaviour.
It takes courage to seek out a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. I am here to support & empower you in that journey.

Online counseling allows you to receive care from a mental health practitioner via phone, video chat, or instant messaging. It is convenient for those who may have trouble getting to or would prefer not to have in-person therapy appointments. Starting at $65 per week, online counseling is generally more affordable than in-person counseling. A study by researchers at University of California, Berkeley found that online counseling can be just as effective as face-to-face therapy while being more convenient, affordable, and accessible.
